****** Welcome to Anteiku ******
by GermanQueerBoy
Summary
Hide joins the investigative force right away, and is thrown to the
elite team. He isn't sure how he'll survive until he meets his squad
     leader, Kaneki Ken.
Hide falls in love with the alluring younger man, but he's a lot more
than he looks. Of course there isn't much time to discover anything
     before their first mission.
A year passes. Then Kaneki gets hurt and becomes VERY ill. Hide takes
care of him, and suddenly he's dating his squad leader.
     It's all very confusing.
Notes
Currently Kaneki is actually 5'7 and 23 years old, but for the sake
of this I shrunk him. Oops.
Anyway, I was inspired to write this by paxton1976.

***** Chapter 1 *****
“Hello! My name is Nagachika Hideyoshi, I’m from the academy. I’ll be working
here from now on. Please take care of me!” I bowed, looking up hesitantly at
the director. He smiled.
“Welcome Nagachika. You’ll be working with Anteiku. They are an elite team, the
best of the best.”
“With all due respect sir, I’m not sure an elite team is the best place for me.
I’m most certainly not the best here.”
“You have time to improve, don’t worry. The people of Anteiku requested you
personally, so you must have done something to impress them. Do not worry.”
“All right, thank you sir.” I bowed again, and followed the man who beckoned to
me. He led me through several long hallways until we reached a door that read:
あんていく. I stared up at the word before following the man through. An old man was
seated at a desk inside.
“New recruit for you, Yoshimura.” The old man - Yoshimura? - looked up. He
smiled, a kindly smile you’d expect from a grandfather, not one from a director
of an elite force.
“Ah. Thank you Hirako. Have a seat young man. May I ask your name?” The man who
had led me here bowed and left the room, I sat in the chair.
“I’m Nagachika Hideyoshi. I just came from the academy.” The old man nodded,
rising and grabbing a file and some note book paper.
“Nice to meet you, Nagachika-Kun. I am Yoshimura.”
“Ah, you can just call me Hide, Yoshimura-San. It’s nice to meet you too.”
“We do things differently at Anteiku, so you’ll have to forgive me if I confuse
you. Now let’s see… ah. You’ll be in Kaneki-San’s squad. Does that work for
you? He’s a sweet boy really, and the other members are very nice.” I blinked.
“Oh, okay.”
“They aren’t here right now but you can meet the others-” A young girl with
dark hair burst into the office.
“Sir! It’s Kaneki.” Yoshimura was on his feet immediately.
“What’s happened?”
“I’m not sure. The gas masks just came back, they’re all bleeding. They said
Banjou has Kaneki and he’s hurt badly. Jiro is worried he might not make it.”
The old man nodded.
“I’ll go right away. I hate to have you away at a time like this, but can you
stay with Nagachika?” The girl nods.
“Fine. Just… sir? Don’t let him die. Please.” Yoshimura nods, and leaves the
room. There’s an awkward silence.
“Um, Hi? I’m Nagachika Hideyoshi, but you can call me Hide… I guess.” Her eyes
snap to me. They’re violet, like her hair.
“I’m Kirishima Touka. Nice to meet you. Welcome to Anteiku.” I give a small
smile, but it’s hard to considering the situation.
“Yoshimura-San said I would be working under Kaneki, but I don’t know who that
is exactly…” Touka looks at me for a moment, then turns away.
“Kaneki Ken. 19 years old. He’s one of our best fighters. Young and strong,
really light and fast. Short. Grey eyes, white hair. Leads Goat. There’s only
four other members, you’ll be fine.” She hesitates.
“If, he lives.” I nod.
“I’m sure he will.” Touka glances at me, then tilts her head back.
“I hope so. I think he’d like you. You two are polar opposites from what I can
tell, but you seem to get along with everyone so…”
“Are… Are you two close?” She laughs.
“Close? I guess so. I worked under him for a couple years, then we were
partners for a few years. Close as friends yeah. Technically half-siblings to
be exact. My Uncle adopted him.” I grin at her.
“I know he’ll live. Say, wanna show me around?”

I think I forgot to mention this, but Kaneki has long hair here and
     his hair is white.

Touka led me around the whole place, showing me everything while she talked
about the members.
“You’ll like it here, Nagachika. Everyone’s super friendly.” We were in the
kitchen by this point - our last stop.
“And this is the kitchen. All I can do is make drinks, tea or coffee. Otherwise
I’m all thumbs. Komo can show you around though. He makes amazing ramen.
Kaneki and the Manager do most of our cooking.”
“The Manager?”
“Mhm. Yoshimura.”
“Ah.” We stood there, and I tried to imagine what Kaneki might be like. What he
might like to do, what kind of things he cooked.
“Kirishima-San?” Touka spun around, looking at the young woman who had entered
the room. She was around Touka’s height and had auburn hair.
“Jiro? What’s up?”
‘Jiro? Isn’t that the name of that girl who was worried about Kaneki…
“It’s Kaneki-San. He’ll live. He’s awake now actually, and wants to see you.”
 Touka sighed in relief.
“Thank you, Jiro. Walk with us?” Jiro nodded. I half-listened to the girls talk
about what had happened. I was finally going to meet Kaneki. Strangely, I was
nervous.

Kaneki was nothing like I was expecting. We entered the room, and he was
sitting up against the backboard of the bed. One arm was bandaged against his
chest and a book was open in his lap.
“Kaneki-San? Your sister is here.”  Jiro’s voice was louder than need be, but
Kaneki looked up. His eyes were silver grey, white bangs falling across them
and blocking his vision. His skin was much too pale and it scared me. In all
honesty, Kaneki looks like a walking corpse.
“Touka-Chan. And who’s this?”  He spoke in a monotone, neither happy to see his
sister nor annoyed that she brought a friend. Neutral.
“This is Nagachika Hideyoshi. He’s new, added to your squad.” Kaneki nodded,
looking me over.
“Pleased to meet you, Nagachika-San. Kaneki Ken. Welcome to Anteiku.”  I
smiled.
“You can just call me Hide, Kaneki-San. Pleased to be working under you.” He
nodded again, gaze moving to look out the window. I took that as my cue to
leave, and followed Jiro out of the room.
“Kaneki-San is a little… distant. You’ll like working under him though. He’s
strict, but you know he cares. I’m Takeda Jiro, nice to officially meet you,
Hide!” She shook my hand. “Come on. You need to meet the others.”

[Just because my path is different doesn’t mean I’m lost.]

It’s been a week since I meet Kaneki. He’s healing still, but comes to watch us
train.
“Sante!” He shouts, standing up. We all freeze. Kaneki’s hair is down today,
hiding his face and it’s impossible to tell what he’s thinking.
“You’re going to break your arm if you land like that. Your wrist should be up
against your chest, not hitting the ground.”  Sante frowns for a moment then
crosses his arm across his chest.
“What am I supposed to land on then?”
“Shoulder. Curl in on yourself, and let your shoulder hit the ground.”  Kaneki
takes off the  jacket he’s wearing and comes over. It’s not his jacket, it’s
his Uncle’s, much too big for him. Without it, Kaneki looks tiny.
“Kaneki-Kun, you shouldn’t be-”
“I’m fine, Banjou-San. Roma’s just being fussy. Besides, what she doesn’t know
won’t kill her.” He pins his hair back out of his face and smiles, a daring
look in his eyes. We move out of the way as Kaneki beckons Banjou. The larger
man frowns, then runs at him. Kaneki holds his ground, looking relaxed, but
muscles tense. When Banjou is a foot or so in front of him (not really a big
space) Kaneki throws himself to the ground.
It’s just as he told Sante. Arms across his chest, shoulders curled inwards,
landing firmly on his left shoulder and rolling.
“Try that.” He says, getting to his feet with Banjou’s help. Sante nods. Kaneki
gestures for Ichimi to charge Sante. Sante almost pulls it off, but falls
awkwardly. Kaneki hurries over.
“You’re not hurt, are you?” He asks worriedly. Sante shakes his head.
“I’m alright. Couldn’t pull it off though. Sorry Kaneki-San.”  Kaneki shakes
his head, looking off into the distance.
“Try tripping yourself. Put your left ankle behind your right and try to step
to the left when you fall. It’ll knock you over, so remember to cross your
arms.”  Sante nods, and Ichimi takes his place again. This time Sante does it,
and for a small moment, I see Kaneki smile proudly. The moment ends and his
face goes blank again.
“Well done. In an actual battle you won’t be able to trip yourself, so practice
well.” Kaneki takes his seat against the wall of the room again, pulling on the
jacket.

[No one mourns the wicked. No one cries they won’t return. No one lays a lily
                                on their grave]

A few weeks later, Kaneki was officially cleared for duty again. Which was
good, because the day after he was cleared we were informed that our new
mission was set a month from now.
“We’re back at it again guys. Furuta is still on the run. We’ve got a few new
hideouts to look at. Remember, orders are shoot to stun, not kill. Avoid
killing if you can. We need him alive. Understood?”
“Um, hate to be that one kid who knows nothing, but can someone fill me in on
what exactly we are doing?” Kaneki turned his eyes to me, and I shivered. His
hair was pulled up in a tight bun at the top of his head, and you could see all
of his emotions. (Read; you could see him give you the death glare or remain
neutral.)
“Furuta is a serial killer known for kidnapping children. He’ll do anything to
them, before sending them home. All his victims are killed a week after their
return. Furuta is careless, constantly leaving trails. The case was passed onto
us after the main branch failed one too many times to hunt him down.”
“Our main target as Goat has almost always been hunting down Doctor Kanou, and
Furuta is thought to be connected to Kanou so Yoshimura gave it to us.”
“I see.” Kaneki looked up when a young woman walked into the room. She was
younger than Touka.
“Hinami?”
“Onii-Chan, weapons master wants to see you. Your weapon is fixed and he’s got
one for the new guy.”  Kaneki nodded, and beckoned to me.
“Come on, Hide.” I followed him out, and we walked down to the lowest level.

The twirling thing Kaneki is doing with his knife towards the end is
the same twirling think Jack Sparrow does in the first Pirates of the
     Caribbean movie.

Kaneki was silent the whole way down, and there was a lot of floors to walk
down.
“What are we doing exactly?” I asked, when we were on the twelfth stair-well.
“Weapons Master. You need to be armed for the mission, and he was repairing
mine.” That was the only thing he said to me, for the rest of the way down he
never spoke. Eventually, we reached the floor we were looking for.
“HySy… Is that the name of the Weapons Master?” Kaneki looked at me sharply,
turning quickly as if he had forgotten I was here.
“No. It’s the name of his shop. He used to have the shop as just another shop
you find walking around until the Manager recruited him. I’m pretty sure he
used to work making masks.” I frowned.
“If he used to make masks, why would Yoshimura put him as a weapons master?”
 Kaneki shrugged.
“He’s amazing at what he does, be it here or making masks.” Kaneki knocked
once, then opened the door.
“Uta?” I looked around. It was like a warehouse, concrete walls and pipes
running across the ceiling. There were lines of bows, guns and sling shots on
the south wall. Katanas and swords decorated the north wall. The east wall held
knives and daggers, while the west held everything else. Clubs, whips and
everything in between. There was no sign of the Weapons Master.
A young woman walked out from between the maze of display cases that covered
the floor 10 feet from the entrance.
“Kaneki-chi! You here to see Uta-Nii?” Kaneki looked at her blankly, completely
emotionless.
“Roma. Where’s Uta?”
“Right here. Welcome, Kaneki-Chi.” Kaneki spun around. Standing in a corner, in
between the west and south walls, was a tall man. His skin was as pale as
Kaneki’s - or at least the skin that showed was. The man was covered in
tattoos. He had black hair pulled into a ponytail and half of his head was
shaved.
“Uta.” The man smiled. His eyes were red.
“Roma, help Nagachika find a weapon that suits him. Come over here Kaneki-chi,
I fixed them for you. We’ll have to adjust the sheaves, and your boots might
need to be redone but now…” Uta’s voice faded as he and Kaneki moved away
through the maze. Roma smiled at me.
“Let’s see what fits you best, hm? What did you fight with at the academy?”
“I used a gun, but I’m better with a sword type of weapon.”
“What do you mean by ‘sword type’?”
“Mmmmhhh, like a staff or something.”
“What about… This one?” She took out a long pole-like sword-thing from a case
on the wall. It honestly looked like a lightsaber, and confused the fuck out of
me.
“Push the button on the handle.” I did, and the the lit up. I looked at Roma in
surprise.
“Do you see the other button? Just below it.” I nodded.
“Push it.”  The pole-thing split into two. I dropped it. Roma laughed. I stared
at her in shock.
“What the fuck did I just do?” I asked her, bending to pick it up.
“Yukimura ⅓.” She told me, sounding proud. “It was Kaneki-Chi’s original
weapon. Made about…. Oh 14 years ago, give or take a few months.”
“Does he still use it?” I know next to nothing about Kaneki, and I was told
we’ll have to room together during the mission.
“Yeah. But you guys are hunting Fruit-Chan, right? He won’t use it then. Only
when you’re after low lifes or Kanou. But Fruit-Chan is dangerous and Kane-Chi
likes a smaller weapon then.”
“Fruit-Chan?”
“Furuta. It’s what we call him.” I nod, looking down at the weapon in my hand.
Imagining Kaneki using it. I’ve seen him train. He’s fast, and strong.
“Nagachika. Move.” It’s Kaneki’s voice and I step over with Roma, completely
confused. A knife shoots past us.
“Well done, Kaneki-Kun. Does it fly right?” Kaneki and Uta came into view.
Kaneki had a second knife in his hand, fingers idly twirling it.
“Mhm.” Gently, he drags the blade across his palm. Barely touching him, yet
slicing his skin like water.
“It’s perfect. Thank you, Uta-San.” He smiles, barely. Uta walks over to the
target, pulling the knife from it and tossing the blade to Kaneki. Our leader
catches it with ease. He looks at me, eyes blank.
“Are you ready?” I nodd. He bows and thanks Uta again. I thank Roma, and follow
him out.
